I. For What Why do new energy vehicles need communication?
Charging a new-energy vehicle is not merely about “transferring electrical energy”; it also requires verifying the vehicle’s status, negotiating charging parameters, and performing safety authentication.
The EVCC (Electric Vehicle Communication Controller) serves as the vehicle-side communication control core, responsible for information exchange between the vehicle and the charging equipment, enabling charging control, protocol conversion, and safety management.

Lika Electric Control ensures every transmission is more reliable.
EVCC establishes a data connection with the SECC via PLC communication technology through the charging cable, enabling information exchange between the vehicle and the charging equipment.
II. How does the EVCC use PLC to enable communication between the vehicle and the charging station?
The EVCC serves as the vehicle’s communication hub, leveraging PLC technology to enable the charging cable to function simultaneously as both a power conductor and a data link. By using a coupling transformer to superimpose signals onto the power line, it facilitates real-time data exchange between the vehicle and the charging station.

III. Key Component in PLC Communication: Coupling Transformer
In the EVCC PLC communication module, the coupling transformer plays a crucial role in signal coupling and electrical isolation transmission.
PLC chip → Primary winding → Magnetic core coupling
→ Secondary winding → Power line

Signal Generation and Coupling
On the left side, the PLC communication chip inside the EVCC generates a high-frequency carrier signal, which, after being amplified by the driver circuit, is coupled into the charging cable via the PLC coupling transformer.
Isolation and Anti-Interference
The intermediate PLC coupling transformer provides electrical isolation between the communication‑chip side and the power‑line side, while simultaneously performing signal coupling and impedance matching, thereby enhancing the security and electromagnetic interference immunity of the communication link.
Vehicle-to-charger communication
After receiving the carrier signal, the SECC on the right side exchanges information with the EVCC—covering charging status, power demand, and security authentication—ultimately establishing reliable communication between the new-energy vehicle and the charging equipment.
